POOL ART FAIR NEW YORK

May 10, 11 & 12
Flatiron Hotel
9 West 26th Street
New York NY 10013

Inspired by the French tradition of Artists Fairs, starting from the famous 1863 Courbet's Salon des Independents, (AKA Salon des Refusés) PooL is the first fair in the US dedicated to unrepresented artists. The first edition took place in 2000 under the title: New York Independent Art Fair.

The simple, modest approach of the PooL Art Fair offers an exciting alternative to the "Art Fair" experience for dealers and collectors as well as the general public. PooL's main purpose is to create a meeting ground for outstanding unrepresented artists and the large public of contemporary art professionals. The fair also serves as an invaluable resource for the artistic community and the general public.

The organization committee, Frère Independent, offers to the artists the opportunity to be a part of the unique and important cultural environment that manifests that week in New York. Hundreds of thousands of art enthusiasts travel to the city to see and buy Art. It is a unique opportunity for gallery owners, curators and other art enthusiasts to discover artists that are not shown in the other art fairs.

Artists are able to sell work while expanding their network as well as receiving invitations to exhibit or create site-specific work by others.

The 3-day exhibition includes curated exhibitions, lectures addressing the challenges of the current art world along with special projects and events.

Alternative to Artissima: Art event to be held in a former prison, each gallery to show work in a cell!
The Others is an innovative international exhibition project with a new format entirely dedicated to foster new contemporary art, promoted by the organisation The Others and hosted in Le Nuove, a suggestive large 1870 prison, now transformed in a permanent museum and sometimes used for pop up events, exhibitions and live concerts.

The Others gathers under the same roof around 60 arts organisations committed to develop ongoing programmes dedicated to young artists. The participants meet at The Others to foster debates and opportunities within the current “global contemporary art community”. The Others acts as a catalyst for showcasing the multi-facets creative scene and its current protagonists, different for constituency, objectives and expression channels. It creates a completely new format for promoting and valuing them while also actively inviting the public to discover and experience the new voices and energies of the international art world.

The event introduces also an original formula shifting the opening times to evenings, from 6pm till 1am and including an entertainment programme with performances, readings, live music, dj sets and video projections accompanying the main fair. This will make Le Nuove an unrivaled meeting point for art amateurs, younger audiences and for the professionals of the sector who will be in town for Turin’s contemporary art week.
As part of the event, three Prizes will be assigned.

The opening night is on the 8th of November from 21pm onwards. A party will be organised by the cult music magazine the Rolling Stones, a bold international editorial project that shares with The Others a passion for talent scouting and giving visibility to new creativity – the programme will include a dj sets selected by the editorial team.
